Bristol Spotlights
The University of Bristol’s Student-Writing Theatre Society
About Us
We are Bristol’s most innovative and original theatre society! 100% of our productions are written, directed, produced and acted by students. We put on various shows throughout the year, providing the best opportunities for student writers to take their scripts to production. These take the form of traditional full-length shows as well as showcases. Our first showcase of the year, CRAM, aims to get as many fresh faces as possible involved in various different roles and is a chaotic blend of comedic sketches written and directed by the new committee. We strive to create works of theatre across genres, styles and forms, and are proud to be Bristol's most experimental theatre company.

Spotlights? DramSoc? DramLights?
It doesn’t take long in the world of Bristol student theatre to hear these three society names thrown around seemingly interchangeably, so let’s clear up some confusion…
DramSoc is Spotlights’ sister society focused on performing pre-written plays. The two societies are technically separate (with separate memberships), but do joint socials, trips, and some showcases together. Our WhatsApp community is also joint (hence the DramLights name!)
Get involved!
Spotlights makes a continuous effort to be welcoming throughout the year and we encourage everyone to join no matter their experience with theatre and/or writing. We start with a joint family scheme alongside Bristol DramSoc and series of social events that are an easy way to meet our committee and make friends with like-minded students. We put on a twice-yearly freshers-only showcase called FreshCase in collaboration with DramSoc, which is entirely written, acted and directed by freshers! We also take part in a number of events with the other performing arts societies (like Music Theatre Bristol or ShaxSoc) culminating in the yearly ball POSHed, which is a great way to end the year.
However you want to be involved, we can't wait to work with you!
